Welcome back to Simba Sitting Shenanigans: Shabbos Edition!
Last night, Simba enjoyed a delicious dinner while I read my book. When Simba finished eating, we went for a nice sunset stroll. Simba really enjoyed our walk. Simba returned to the apartment to rest while I went to Shabbos dinner.
When I returned home, we went for a very quick walk. Simba wanted to go to the boardwalk but I told him I would rather stay close to the building. It was dark outside and I was not carrying a phone since it was Shabbos. I know Simba is a good guard dog and will give a nasty bark at anyone suspicious (or even some not suspicious), but I still felt more comfortable being close to the building.
We came back inside and fell asleep almost immediately. Simba was so excited for Shabbos day, he woke me up at 5:45 am. I told Simba it was too early and he should go back to sleep. A few minutes later Simba started to whine again. I opened the living room door, however since the TV was not on, he decided that was not good enough for him. I went to the living room to lie down on the couch and Simba wanted to play. I told him it was too early and went back to bed. Around 7 am he was still whining, so I gave him his breakfast and went back to sleep.
I woke up around 9:30 and we got ready for our day. Simba and I headed outside for a walk. I do not trust Simba in the hallway without a leash anymore, so I make sure to always put it on before we leave the apartment. Simba decided to play the “catch me” game. As you may know from previous blogs, I am not a big fan of Simba’s games. Finally, I was able to put Simba’s leash on and we started to head out the door. I reached to get the key off the hook, and Simba decided to run. He wound up knocking everything off the little table that Jason keeps next to the front door. Ok, so maybe I am being a little dramatic, it wasn’t everything but he did knock a basket onto the floor.

We got outside, and Simba saw some of his dog friends Max and Lucy. The dogs were playing while the humans were talking. A few minutes later, Simba’s friend Tubi also joined us. Simba, for some reason, was more interested in smelling the ground than playing with the other dogs. We continued on our walk and we saw another one of Simba’s friends, also named Max. For some reason, Max loves Simba, but Simba always ignores him. I told Simba that it was not nice.
We came back to the apartment and I realized we were outside for over an hour! We relaxed for a little while and then I began getting ready for Shabbos lunch. Simba was very well behaved while I was making preparations. Before we knew it, Seeyon came over and Simba was so excited to see him. Simba had to be reminded not to lick Seeyon’s clothes. It is something we are actively working on with him.
Simba became a little jealous during lunch because we did not have food for him. He tried begging but we knew Jason would kill us if we deviated from his strict diet. I gave Simba a cheese chew which only kept him occupied for a few minutes. Then I gave him a water bottle to play with, which also lasted only a few minutes. I was determined to not give any more food so I tried an ice cube. That lasted the shortest amount of time. He was not interested at all. Finally I found a toy he wanted to play with. A plastic cup! You can have millions of toys and he wants to play with a cup. Trust me when I tell Jason he really does not need to buy more toys for Simba, I am serious! the floor is littered with toys and he’d rather play with a cup!
After lunch we went for a walk and then relaxed. Simba kept barking at noises in the hallway so I decided it was time to relax in the bedroom. I opened up the curtains and read my book. It started getting too dark to read so we went back into the living room and I gave Simba dinner. I broke up the lamb morsels to try and make it last longer. It worked for a few minutes but he still finished fairly quickly.
Simba played with some toys while I ate my dinner and then we got ready to go for a walk. Simba once again played the “chase me” game. I told Simba I would wait for him to be calm. I sat on the floor and waited while Simba ran around. Eventually, he realized I was not giving in and let me put the leash on. We went for a nice walk outside and headed back inside. When we got back into the building, Simba started doing his nasty bark to a man in the building and tried nipping at him. The man didn’t seem to mind, but I told Simba he is never to do that again!
We came back into the apartment, and Simba began playing again. Now he is sleeping on the floor while I write this blog.

Tune in tomorrow for more Simba Sitting Shenanigans!
