Take 7: Day 7!

Welcome back to another episode of Simba Sitting Shenanigans. Wow! I cannot believe it is already Day 7. This means our time together is coming to an end and Jason will be returning home tomorrow night. Simba and I are going to make the most of our last 24 hours together.

Last night, Simba was really testing me to try and get more food. I realized if I went into the bedroom and pretended it was bedtime, Simba would let me relax on my phone without barking at me. Simba was very relaxed and calm until I woke him up to brush his teeth.

I know I said I would be an expert by the end of this week but I have given up on that dream. I have come to terms with the fact that I still do not feel comfortable holding Simba’s mouth open with my bare hand. Jason says Simba won’t bite me but I am still nervous. I am, however, able to convince Simba to open his mouth for short periods of time so I can brush all of his teeth.

We went for a short walk (I am really not a fan of long walks at night in this area; it’s a little scary) and then we headed to bed. Simba once again fell asleep right away. I am convinced something happens outside every day at 4 AM because Simba wakes up barking at that time every night. I can then redirect him back to bed. I have no idea what is waking him up!

We woke up this morning and did our usual routine. I gave Simba his medicine then half his breakfast. We went out for a walk and took advantage of the beautiful weather. I was not very happy with Simba’s behavior on our walk. He barked his nasty bark at strangers who were just trying to say hello. We came back to the apartment, I gave Simba the rest of his breakfast and I headed out the door.

I returned to the apartment, got my usual greeting and tried to relax for a few minutes after work. Simba had other ideas: like barking and trying to get food. You know what that means – time for a walk! When we got outside, the fire department was doing scuba diving drills. Simba didn’t really seem to care or want to watch.

Simba enjoyed sniffing every piece of grass we walked past. We saw a big white dog as we were returning to the apartment. Simba stopped walking and just sat there. The only problem was the other dog also stopped. The other dog’s owner actually held their dog back. I think they were trying to let us pass without the big dog going crazy. I had to beg and plead but finally Simba agreed to keep walking.

We returned to the apartment and I gave Simba half of his dinner. I fed him a little early because I had a music lesson. I did not want Simba to be hungry later so I gave him half before my lesson and the rest when I returned.

I ate my dinner while Simba was supposed to be eating the second half of his. Simba, however, finished his dinner in the time it took me to wash my hands. He then started barking at the blue slow feeder. I gave it to him empty, which kept him busy for a good 8 seconds. Then he barked at the bully stick holder, which I also gave him empty, and that kept him busy for 3 seconds. I added a small amount of applesauce to the slow feeder so I could eat in peace, which made Simba very happy!

Now for the not-so-happy news. Simba and I are currently not on speaking terms. When I sat down to write the blog, I noticed he had taken the small ball out of the slow feeder and had it in his mouth. Now, I know better than to try to take something out of Simba’s mouth. I grabbed the rest of the slow feeder and added applesauce to it. I placed the feeder away from Simba and tried to grab the ball before he noticed. But of course, Simba was too fast for me and started to attack. He picked the ball back up and scratched my hand.

I grabbed a piece of lamb and put it in his food bowl, very far away from where he dropped the ball. I quickly ran over and picked up the ball and the rest of the slow feeder. They are now hidden in the bathroom, where they will live until Jason comes home. I made sure to let Simba know his behavior was unacceptable and I am not happy with him.

Simba has tried to make it up to me with some cuddles but I am trying to write the blog. Simba can try his apology again later. Simba got a little bored and decided that since I was already upset with him, he should take out 20 more toys and scatter them all over the living room for me to clean up! I think someone needs to teach Simba how to apologize properly!

Simba was enjoying watching the football game but has now started barking at Jason’s decorations. I think I need to hurry up, finish this blog and take him on a walk.

Tune in tomorrow for the final episode Simba Sitting Shenanigans Take 7!
